Two local girls taking time out to walk and raise money for Help For Heroes

I’m not sure if there is a branch of Help For Heroes In Farnborough and I forgot to ask but, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to talk to these two girls as they were walking past me when I was arriving at work today.

As many people Know I used to work for SSAFA the Soldiers Sailors Airforce Family Association in Germany and when Help for Heroes came onto the scene, they were a refreshing new charity that captured the imagination and I believe the mood of the country.  We often take our service personnel for granted.  Sent off to fight for, or defend our principles or interests around the world.  Often placing themselves in great danger.  I think I’m right in saying that for every serviceman or woman killed in the Iraq conflict, five or more came back with life changing injuries many with loss of limbs.  These were the people behind the headlines.  H4H, as they are also known have raised millions of pounds to help them and their families but still more is needed.

Help For Heroes In FarnboroughHelp For Heroes In FarnboroughRebekka Foakes and Becki Beilby are two young women that have taken time out to raise money and support this very worthwhile cause.  When I met them this morning they had already raised over seven hundred pounds which in incredible in such a short space of time.  I couldn’t resist asking them to do a quick Facebook Live In Farnborough with me and they were happy to oblige and you can access it here   They should be deservedly praised for their efforts.  They are walking over 21 miles (in this heat that’s impressive), visiting different areas and branches of Nat West / Holts banks but finishing in Fleet.  The bank is going to match the £500 but i sincerely hope they will match whatever the girls raise.  The worst case scenario at the moment has the girls raising a total of £1,200. Good luck girls and well done.          You can donate direct to their Just Giving Page by clicking this link
